The day's word SARAH
Is anything too hard for the Lord?
“Is anything too difficult for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you—in about a year—and Sarah will have a son.”Genesis 18:14, BSB
Sarah was about ninety years old when she overheard a visitor tell Abraham she would have a son within a year. She laughed to herself. After so many years of waiting and disappointment, it sounded ridiculous.
Then the Lord asked a question that echoes through the whole Bible: "Is anything too difficult for the LORD?"
A year later, Sarah held her son, and she named him Isaac, which means "laughter." Her laugh of disbelief became a laugh of joy. "God has made me laugh," she said, "and everyone who hears of this will laugh with me."
Many of us have prayers we've stopped praying, because the waiting has gone on so long it feels foolish to hope. Sarah's story doesn't promise we'll always get what we want. But it reminds us that nothing is too difficult for God, and his timing is not our timing.
Reflect
- What have I stopped praying for because it seems impossible?
- How might God turn my laugh of doubt into a laugh of joy?
Prayer: Lord, thank you that nothing is too difficult for you. Revive my hope where I've given up. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
